‘Team Vibs’ undertakes MoonWalk challenge for cancer research in memory of Vibeke Ulmann

Marathon-length night-time walk event takes place in London on 12th May to raise money for grants into research and life-improvement for those with cancer

AMG Systems’ Sara Fisher is teaming up with her son Cameron to help fund breast cancer research in memory of inspirational friend and colleague Vibeke ‘Vibs’ Ulmann. Team Vibs will take on the 26-mile night-time MoonWalk challenge in London this May, raising money for breast cancer charity Walk the Walk.

“Cameron and I are undertaking the challenge in honour and memory of our inspirational friend, Vibeke Ulmann, who sadly lost her long battle against breast and bone cancer in December 2017,” Fisher said.

“When Vibs was diagnosed in early 2013, she started on a journey that saw her smash the prognosis and treatment expectations of her doctors and consultants time and time again. Her incredible approach to her cancer journey had a huge impact on her family and friends. Not only did she show the most amazing courage and strength, she demonstrated how sheer determination and a positive mindset can dramatically influence outcomes, even in the most dire of circumstances.”

A hugely popular and colourful personality, Vibeke was the dynamic partner and director in PR and communications firm Catalyst for Content, where she worked tirelessly for clients and with media partners across the technology sector.

Catalyst founder and director John Waite said, “ I had the great pleasure of working with Vibs, first as a client and then as a partner, for almost twenty years, becoming close and fierce friends. Forceful, persistent, tireless, thoughtful, and generous, she was very much a ‘one-of-a-kind person’. Her long battle with cancer was conducted with unrelenting determination and courage, and I salute those same characteristics that Cameron and Sara are displaying in undertaking the MoonWalk challenge.”

The MoonWalk challenge takes place in London on 12th May, and will see 15,000 participants travel the 26.2-mile circular route from Clapham Common and past some of London’s most iconic locations. The 2018 edition of the MoonWalk has a ‘Wild West’ theme, with walkers wearing specially created cowboy hats as well as the event’s trademark decorated bras.

Walk the Walk has raised more than £121 million since 1996, and as a grant making charity has funded both research into breast cancer and helped improve the lives of those living with cancer now. Cancer research was a cause that Vibeke was very passionate about and she made sure that her voice was heard.

“From very early on, Vibs was keen to frankly and publicly share her experiences and raise awareness of the disease, so that others could understand the reality of living with terminal cancer,” Fisher said.

“Vibs appeared on TV, in magazine articles and also actively raised money for breast cancer charities. Vibs was a true warrior and a real-life super-hero. We were so proud to consider her our family. Please help us to do something meaningful in Vibs’ memory and for breast cancer by sponsoring us for the MoonWalk.”

Founder of Walk the Walk, and organiser of The MoonWalk London, Nina Barough CBE, said: “Walk the Walk is all about raising money, raising awareness, getting fit, and having fun! The charity has come a very long way in our 21 years, not only encouraging people to become fitter and healthier, but it has also played an important part in funding some of the groundbreaking advancements we have seen in the treatment and diagnosis of breast cancer.

“Now we need to set our sights on finding a cure for breast cancer, so that everybody has a chance of survival. This is why it is so important that we all keep on Walking the Walk - it is only with each person uniting together and doing their little bit, that our goal will become a reality.”
